This Laphroaig single malt Scotch whisky is finished in Pedro Ximinez (PX) barrels for a touch of sherry sweetness. Aged first in ex-Bourbon barrels and traditional quarter casks, it has a complex flavor profile. |The signature medicinal and smoky flavor of Laphroaig is softened by notes of raisins and sultanas with a touch of sweet licorice. This Laphroaig expression is an ideal choice for fans of sherry-finished wh.iskies, or anyone looking for something special. |Laphroaig PX begins life the way all of our Laphroaig Scotch whiskies do — on the traditional malting floor in our Islay distillery. Malted barley is gently dried over a peat-fuelled fire, which imparts a distinctive smoky ""reek"" which peated whisky is known for. Once distilled, the spirit is poured into American oak ex-Bourbon barrels where the aging process begins. |Next, it's moved into 19th Century-style quarter casks. These smaller contain.ers allow more contact with the oak, smoothing out the whisky as it matures and lending some woody notes. When it's almost ready, it's moved into larger PX barrels. These are crafted from European oak, and were previously filled with rich, sweet andunctuous Pedro Ximinez sherry.
